Mike Genevay
Mike Genevay, trombonist for the Wiseguys, received his Bachelor and Master of Music Education Degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans. He currently serves as Band Director at Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies in Metairie, La. He has been involved in education for 37 years as a Band Director, Principal and Assistant Principal/Disciplinarian.
Mike is a past recipient of the Magna Cum Laude Award from the International Association of Women Band Directors, the Legion of Honor Award from the National College Band Directors’ Association, the John Philip Sousa Foundation, as well as being named the Mr. Holland’s Opus National Band Director of the year. In addition to all of these awards, he is also a member of the Holy Cross High School, Loyola University, Louisiana Music Educators’ Association and the International Association of Jazz Educators’ Halls of Fame.
Mike also performed with New Orleans’ own legendary clarinet player Pete Fountain for 33 years, before, in his own words, being “honored to become a member of The Wiseguys”, where, incidentally, his comedic skills never go unnoticed! It is we, who are honored that Mike brought his immeasurable talents and amazingly positive attitude to The Wiseguys!
